- Confusing sizing
The Sunday Darkwave is a high-quality BMX bike that weighs 24.97 pounds and costs $1,299. It’s designed with a more stable 21.25″ toptube, 4 pegs, and a freecoaster. This is a street riders dream. This bike is built for street riders, especially those who are pretty tall. It’s packed with features like four pegs, four hub guards, and an Odyssey Clutch V2 freecoaster. In this post, we’ll help you figure out if it’s right for you or not.
It’s important to mention here that the Sunday darkwave is available in a left-hand drive and a right hand drive. The size of the top tube is going to depend on which drive side you choose. This is really confusing and slightly annoying since riders who want a certain drive side with a certain top tube, may not be able to get , but I understand the logistics and why Sunday had to do it this way.
LHD Sunday Darkwave: 21.25″ Toptube
RHD Sunday Darkwave: 21″ Toptube
Is the Sunday Darkwave high quality?
Yes, the Sunday darkwave is a really high-quality BMX bike. It has a lot of aftermarket parts, full chromoly components, and even a lifetime warranty on certain parts. It’s built to mirror the exact same BMX bike that pro rider Broc Raiford rides. Buying this bike is equivalent to buying some of the highest quality parts separately and putting them all together into one really nice bike.
This means you won’t need to change much unless it’s for cosmetics or sizing adjustments. The bike’s frame, forks, and cranks come with the Odyssey 41 thermal lifetime warranty, signaling its exceptional quality.
How does the Sunday Darkwave look?
The Darkwave boasts a sleek design with a matte dark brown colorway, which might not be everyone’s cup of tea. It has a clean look that can be maintained even when riding brakeless, thanks to removable brake hardware.
I’m not a huge fan of this year’s matte dark brown color; it kinda looks like rusty brown to me. I liked the 2022 red color best. But hey, if that’s your thing, go for it!
Is the Sunday Darkwave overpriced?
No. It’s very expensive, but I wouldn’t say it’s overpriced. To be considered overpriced. They would have to be similar quality bikes, available at a cheaper price. And $1300 is pretty typical for a pro level BMX bike like this. This is similar quality to the Sunday soundwave, or the fly Moto Sierra, both of which are over $1000.
For this level of quality you should expect to spend over $1000 anyway.
The bike is an excellent choice for serious BMX riders looking for quality and durability. Its full chromoly frame, high-end cranks, and double wall rims make it worth every penny.

What are the best features of the Sunday Darkwave?
The bike’s standout features include its lightweight design, under 25 pounds, and high-end components like the Odyssey hazard light double wall rims and the Odyssey Thunderbolt cranks.
Getting this bike under 25 pounds with all of the “street gear” on it was not easy. So mad respect to Sunday for figuring out how to keep the weight low with 4x pegs and hub guards.
What makes it special? Its design caters to taller riders and provides a stable yet responsive ride. This bike is all about quality and performance.

Honest thoughts
I was really excited when Sunday released the darkwave complete bike. Because just the soundwave was really lacking for street riders. Now Sunday has three different pro level options and the darkwave is just perfect for riders who want to ride street who also want an incredibly high-quality I definitely recommend this bike a lot on the free bike recommendations for people who want something specific.
It’s a good option for heavier riders. But for lightweight riders or brand new riders it’s honestly overkill. Now do whatever you want with your money, all I’m saying is it if you are newer to the sport you’d be just fine on a mid or high-level BMX bike and you don’t necessarily need a pro level bike.
