4.3/10 (Expert Score)
Product is rated as #13 in category Complete Bikes
After testing the Kink Gap, I found that it actually feels really good. It has modern geometry that is good for skate park. Riding and dirt jumps and overall it doesn't feel as heavy as it should. The tires are pretty chunky. They weigh a lot and don't grip very good, but I did like how the bike felt. I think that this bike is a little bit expensive for the quality that it provides. I'm a taller, heavier and more experience rider, so I'd be nervous about this bike, lasting a long time for me, but someone who weighs under 180 pounds will be totally fine.

The Kink Gap is a beginner level BMX bike that weighs 27.7 pounds and costs $429. This bike is a solid choice for those looking for a blend of performance and price, but it might not be for everyone. It offers features like a tri-moly frame and single wall rims. In this post, we’ll dive into whether the Kink Gap is the right BMX bike for you.

Is the Kink Gap high quality?

No, the Kink Gap is not high quality because it features a mix of chromoly and high-tensile steel components, which is decent but not top-tier.

Its tri-moly frame offers a balance between durability and cost, but it’s not as robust as a full chromoly construction. The single wall rims and partial chromoly components place it in a mid-range quality bracket.

More context on its quality reveals that it’s better than bikes with all high-tensile steel frames but falls short compared to models with full chromoly construction.

How does the Kink Gap look?

The Kink Gap boasts a sleek design, available in matte iridescent mocha and matte baked red, giving it a unique and stylish look. The overall feel is sturdy, yet it manages to maintain a certain flair that’s sure to turn heads.

Comparing it to a custom build, the Kink Gap has a sort of “off-the-shelf coolness” that’s hard to beat. It’s like the cool, reliable ride that stands out without trying too hard.

I gotta say, its style is spot-on. The color options are sick, and the vibe it brings is just awesome. Definitely not lame or dorky.

Is the Kink Gap overpriced?

Yes, the Kink Gap is slightly over priced, only because it is not unique enough, and the price is so close to the Kink Whip, it’s better to get the Whip.

Considering its features and the competition, $499 feels steep for what you’re getting. With bikes like the Kink Whip offering full chromoly construction for just a bit more, the Gap’s price tag doesn’t quite match its value proposition.

What are the best features of the Kink Gap?

The Kink Gap shines with its customizable and upgradeable design, allowing for personalization and growth in the sport. Its mix of aftermarket parts, like the Kink Bold HRD stem and Hemlock pedals, adds value.

What makes it stand out? Its ability to serve as a solid foundation for both new and progressing riders. The balance between cost and performance, coupled with its upgrade potential, makes it special.

Honest Thoughts

I’m not particularly impressed with the quality that the kink gap offers for the $429 price tag. Initially this bike was released at $499 which is absolutely insane. When we consider the new $429 price tag, it makes it a little bit better value, but still not great. I would personally recommend spending an extra $70 and getting the Kink Whip which is going to have full chromoly and double wall.

To be fair, I do typically recommend the kink gap free coaster, even though it’s a little bit more expensive. I go more in depth about that bike here, but the fact that it has a free coaster for under $500 is very appealing and that’s why I recommend it.

It’s not all hate for the kink gap and if you can find this bike for around or under $400 it’s a good value. But when you have the option to buy the kink whip for just a little bit more, I think that’s the best way to go.
