If you’re browsing through the market of BMX bikes, the Sunday Soundwave stands out, not only for its high-quality components but also for its ideal sizing. However, it’s crucial to bear in mind that the right bike size contributes significantly to your overall riding experience.

Available sizes for the Sunday Soundwave

The Sunday Soundwave comes with a 21-inch top tube size. This specific size suits those who are above six feet. Nevertheless, for exceptionally tall riders, around 6’3″ to 6’4″, a 21.25-inch top tube is recommended. If you happen to fall within the 5’9″ to 5’10” range and appreciate a more stable ride, this 21-inch top tube won’t disappoint.

When we start discussing the quality and potential longevity of the 2024 Sunday SoundWave, there’s quite a bit to unpack. To start off, it’s noteworthy to mention that this bike has been acclaimed as one of the best complete bikes in the market that money can buy, and quite frankly, they’re not deceiving us.

Analysis of the Sunday Sound Wave’s Quality and Potential Longevity

The Sunday Sound Wave takes pride in its high-quality aftermarket parts, many of which come with a lifetime 41 thermal warranty. This is significant as it signifies that the manufacturers stand by the quality of their product and are ready to back it up. With this warranty, if you run into any issues, the parts would be replaced by Sunday, free of charge.

Review of the Frame, Forks, Handlebars, Cranks, and Rims

The bike features the aftermarket Sunday Sound Wave frame, the same one used by many of Sunday’s pro riders. This frame is covered by the 41 thermal lifetime warranty. Alongside this, it comes with aftermarket Sunday Darkwave Forks and Odyssey Super Highway bars, both of which carry the same lifetime warranty. The Odyssey Thunderbolt two and a half piece cranks and double-wall Odyssey Hazard Light rims complete the high-quality setup. These rims are a popular choice for those building their own custom wheels due to their strength and durability.

Discussion on the Importance of Chromoly over High Tensile Steel

One of the many reasons that the Sunday Sound Wave stands out in terms of quality is due to its use of Chromoly instead of High Tensile Steel. This material is known for its excellent strength to weight ratio, contributing to both the bike’s resilience and its lighter weight. In essence, it adds a superior level of durability, especially important for those daring BMX maneuvers, while keeping the bike agile and responsive.

  • Lack of a Hub Guard: While the bike comes with three Hub guards, it lacks the drive side Hub guard on the free coaster.

The Sunday Soundwave Special Complete is not just light at a mere 23.41 pounds, but its performance matches its top-tier quality. Manufactured to cater to the requirements of seasoned riders, this bike excels in terms of the quality score and weight limit.

The bike’s strength is further emphasized by the availability of lifetime 41 Thermal Warranty on many parts. This warranty covers the frame, bars, cranks, and forks, guaranteeing that these key components are built to last. The ability of this bike to handle heavyweights cannot be overemphasized; it’s perfect for heavier riders who need a sturdy, reliable bike.

It’s crucial for riders to consider their weight when choosing a BMX bike. Heavier riders must opt for high-quality bikes with robust parts to avoid part failure and potential accidents. This initial investment in a more expensive but quality bike like the Sunday Soundwave can save you from future expenses of repeated parts replacement. Think about it – it’s better to spend more at once rather than having to shell out money multiple times in the long run.

The Sunday Sound Wave, with its amazing quality and top-notch aftermarket parts, doesn’t really restrict you to a specific style of BMX riding. The incredible design and customization possibilities mean that it can be modified to suit your style, be it park, street, or dirt riding.

Although it does not favor one style over another, the bike’s particular geometry and features may influence your ride. The longer chainstay length (between 13.2 and 13.5 inches) provides a more stable and controlled feeling, which can be beneficial for riders who enjoy high-speed, high-altitude park riding.

However, the bike’s stability and control might make some technical street tricks a bit more challenging. On the flip side, for dirt riding, the bike’s overall high quality and strong build should stand up to the rigors of off-road cycling.

Recommendations for Customizing the Sunday Sound Wave

While the Sunday Sound Wave is ready-to-ride right out of the box, there’s always room for personalization. Its fully customizable and upgradeable nature allows riders to tweak and refine the bike to their liking. Here are a few recommendations:

  • For park riding, consider getting comfortable with the stock setup first. With time, you might find that specific upgrades can further improve your performance.
  • For street riding, consider adding pegs and investing in durable tires with good grip for urban environments.
  • For dirt riding, consider investing in tires suitable for off-road conditions and possibly upgrading to a more robust chain to withstand the additional strain.

Given the already high-quality aftermarket components that the 2023 Sunday Soundwave comes with, you might not find yourself needing upgrades right away. However, no bike is perfect and eventually, some riders might consider a few custom modifications for a more personalized touch or to boost performance even further. Here are some recommended upgrades.

1. Add a Fourth Hub Guard

One peculiar aspect of the Sunday Soundwave is its inclusion of only three Hub guards, omitting the drive side Hub guard on the free coaster. Although this may not significantly affect most riders, if you plan to push your riding to the limit and want to protect your wheel to the fullest, investing in an additional drive side Hub guard might be a worthy upgrade.

2. Pegs for Street Riding

While the bike is incredibly versatile, it doesn’t come with pegs. Therefore, if your passion is street riding and you fancy pulling off some grinding tricks, you may need to purchase pegs separately. Remember to opt for quality pegs that can withstand the intensity of your BMX street adventures.

3. A Larger Frame for Taller Riders

The Sunday Soundwave comes with a 21-inch top tube size, which might be a bit small for very tall riders (6’3″ and above). Hence, if you’re above 6’3″, an upgrade to a 21.25-inch top tube might make the bike feel more comfortable and better suited to your height.

Remember, these upgrades are suggestions based on a general assessment. You should always consider your specific needs, preferences, and riding style when thinking about upgrades for your BMX bike.

Value

Is the Sunday SoundWave Worth Its Price?

Is the Sunday SoundWave Worth Its Price?

After a comprehensive review of the 2024 Sunday Sound Wave, we must delve into an essential aspect – its price. At a glance, the $1299 price tag might seem steep to some, especially when comparing to other brands. However, a thorough evaluation of the value proposition it offers is vital.

For starters, it’s key to remember that the Sunday Sound Wave is not your average BMX bike. It stands out as a high-end bike with aftermarket parts, many of which come with a lifetime 41 thermal warranty. These include the frame, forks, bars, and cranks – major components that can cost hundreds of dollars to replace. This warranty is a major advantage that potentially saves the rider a substantial amount of money in the long run.

The Sound Wave offers an unmatched quality that sets it apart from its competition. Most high-end bikes from other brands may have a lifetime guarantee on the frame and forks, but rarely on the cranks. The Sound Wave covers all these parts, offering an all-round, sturdy, and long-lasting ride. This attribute, coupled with its high-quality Odyssey hazard light rims and other premium features, provides an excellent value for money.

It’s an excellent choice for experienced riders, heavy riders who need a high-quality bike, or riders planning to stick around in the sport for a long time. But if you’re not planning to ride for a long time, you might want to explore other alternatives with a lesser price tag.

Considering your specific needs, preferences, and budget, there are other options in the market that might cater to your requirements. A professional bike recommendation can help you identify the best BMX bikes for your unique situation.

In conclusion, while the 2024 Sunday Sound Wave comes at a high price, its remarkable quality and durability validate its cost. Ultimately, the value it provides makes it one of the best BMX bikes that money can buy in 2024.
